This week we discussed a project in Kenya that uses sustainable farming practices and nutrition to improve treatments for infectious diseases. We learned that malnutrition and food insecurity are reducing patients' immune responses in Rusinga Island, Kenya. As well, such issues are increasing the severity of Malaria, Tuberculosis, and HIV/AIDs.

Nicholas Tan, a recent graduate of McGill University, is working with Rusinga’s community and local health care professionals to address food security and malnutrition issues.
