Max and Ilana were joined in the studio by Barbara Harvey, Rebecca DeBruyn and Joyce Ngabire, all students from McGill's Ingram School of Nursing. As a component of the school's global health curriculum, these students completed a placement in one of the nursing program’s partnering countries.
We heard about each student’s unique experience promoting nursing education and practice with communities abroad. Barbara partnered with the International Organization for Migration to work with refugee populations in Damak, Nepal; Rebecca worked with a university in Medellin, Colombia; and Joyce partnered with TANWAT hospital in Njombe, Tanzania. Important themes that we touched on included ethical issues that arise when practicing nursing abroad and some of the ways in which global health nursing experience can be translated back to the Canadian context. Barbara, Rebecca and Joyce also discussed the need to build sustainable nursing partnerships with communities and health organizations in other countries.
