Health on Earth was a part of the 11th Annual Homelessness Marathon. Tonight, we broadcasted segments of our interview, where we produce radio live on the street at the Native Friendship Center at 3 am on February 21st! During that hour, Lorraine, Adri and Ilana, hosted and explored how domestic violence affects housing security. An anonymous woman from Logifem was brave enough to share her story of violence and life on the streets. We also spoke with Marlo Turner Ritchie of L'abri en Ville about the transitional housing program. Two workers from Vancouver Rape Relief and Women's Shelter , Britney and Maria, shared their experiences working with women who are victims of domestic violence. Edith from West Island Women's Shelter talked about women who got off the streets after experiencing violence and street life. The work of all these organizations is inspiring- optimism dominates in a field where it is easy to lose hope.
You can listen to the full hour on domestic violence here.
It is an honor to be participating in such meaningful media event with CKUT. Everyone worked very hard from from 5pm February 20th until 7am February 21st, to raise awareness and bring real live stories related to homelessness, housing, and poverty to the world. Thirty five stations across Canada broadcasted the event. You can stream any and all the hours of the marathon here!
Last but not least, a huge thank you to all of our guests who woke up in the middle of the night to speak with us! Thank you for your time, energy and passion and we look forward to being part of next year's marathon!
