Out of sight and out of mind. For a long time, immates have been a marginalized population of society, and little has been done to promote their health and well-being.
Rates of HIV and hepatitis C virus infections are extraordinarily and unacceptably high in the prison. Eventually, immates return to the communities. Hence, prison health is not only of concern to those in prison. Prison health is public health.
This week, we speak with Sally Lin and Wendy Sproule to explore the issues of health in prisons. They are from the Collaborating Centre for Prison Health and Education at the University of British Columbia. Find out more about the CCPHE from here
