The Comparative Healthcare Systems Program (CHSP) is a club at McGill University. In addition to several on-campus events throughout the year, the club organizes an annual exchange program to Taiwan. In line with its mission of comparing and contrasting different healthcare systems, the exchange aims to improve the Canadian healthcare system by educating future healthcare professionals.
In collaboration with Kao Hsiung University and the Kao Hsiung Ministry of Health, McGill students can explore and understand the Taiwanese healthcare system, which has an incredible 80% public approval rating. Experts in the fields of epidemic disease control such as SARS and H1N1, social health policies, technological applications such as the SmartCard, and comparisons of healthcare systems. Students tour different hospitals and medical centers to observe the differences between private and public systems of care, in addition to the Department of Health and CDC-level research labs. Many perspectives are incorporated into the program, as students participate in a cultural exchange and learn about Aboriginal care and traditional medicines.
