Conflict over End-of-Life Care: How Lawyers and Mediators Can Help Physicians and Families

On July 20, 2016, the ABA is presenting a webinar:  "Conflict over End-of-Life Care: How Lawyers and Mediators Can Help Physicians and Families."

Haavi Morreim will be moderating speakers Douglas B White and Robyn S Shapiro

Five major critical care organizations recently issued a Joint Policy Statement regarding one of the most difficult conflicts anywhere in healthcare: the patient is mortally ill, the healthcare team says "enough," while the family insist "do everything." The Policy urges the use of conflict resolution and other forms of ADR when healthcare providers and families have conflicts over end of life care. Further, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services recently issued changes to the 2016 Medicare physician fee schedule to allow for end of life care planning payments, highlighting the critical importance of this issue.

This webinar will provide insight into ways patients, families, physicians and hospitals can resolve differences surrounding advance care planning and end of life issues without costly and painful litigation.
